raw feeding vs. kibble

Take a look at this picture.

Now imagine yourself as a furry four-legged dog.

A hungry, furry four-legged dog.

If you could only choose to eat the contents out of one of these bowls, which one would you choose?

Bowl 1: hard, dry, processed, grain filled, byproduct containing kibble

Bowl 2: fresh, fragrant, healthy, yet delicious, melt in your mouth, raw meat

Well, I would choose Bowl 2 of course.

And so would my dogs.

This is what they eat every day.

Rethinking Kibble

Before I was introduced to the world of raw feeding, it had never crossed my mind that I was harming my dogs by feeding them kibble.

I even made sure I bought the most expensive bag of kibble that I could find because that had to mean it was good for them, right?

Though there are some kibble brands that are better than others, they are all still heavily processed and nothing compares to feeding dogs what nature intended them to eat.

Did you know that wild dogs and wolves hunt, kill and eat prey?  They thrive off of this.  Their teeth and digestive tract are specifically designed to chew and digest raw meat and most bone.

Feeding kibble is the equivalent of feeding your dog a burger and fries combo from the local fast food joint.

What would happen to us if we ate a fast food burger and fries every single day of our lives?

Well, we’d get fat of course.  We’d be sluggish, unhealthy, our joints would ache and be swollen, we would retain water, and also, we would be bored with eating the same thing every day!

Would we survive? Could we live off of hamburgers and french fries?  Yes, of course.

Would we thrive?

No, not at all.  It would be a struggle every day to get ourselves up and moving, both physically and mentally.

Now, if we eat healthy greens, and lean meats like our human bodies were intended to do, what would happen?

We’d be happier of course!  We would do more things and live longer healthier lives!

So many people just don’t know any option other than kibble.  I am here to tell you though that there is another option.  A much, much better option.

Introducing A Raw Diet

I watched my dog Dojo struggle to run and even walk sometimes and noticed he was gaining weight with the older he got.

Dojo is a family member and the thought of him being in pain, unhealthy and dying too soon really opened my eyes to see what other options were out there.

I started reading and doing a lot of research and talking to a lot of people.

Dog owners were seeing drastic changes in their pets when they took them off kibble and transitioned them to raw dog food.

Allergies were gone, they lost weight, they could walk better, they stopped itching and shedding, their coats were shiny, their teeth were white and had less plaque, they were even more mentally engaged. Their dogs were thriving!

In just 2 months changing  Dojo to raw dog food, he lost 8 pounds and regained the muscle mass that he had when he was younger.  He started to chase the kids around the yard again and now he enjoys playing with our new dog Diana.

Once I switched them both, we never looked back.  I will never buy another bag of kibble again.

I for one, love knowing what exactly it is that my dogs are eating. I take pride in preparing and serving their meals for them.  Sure, it takes dedication.  But if you’re dedicated to your dog and want to provide them with the best life that they can have, then you will do it. It brings me such joy to see them enjoying the food I prepare for them.

How to Raw Feed Your Dog?

There’s a lot to learn when it comes to raw feeding.  You’ll have to learn how to prepare balanced meals your loved one to ensure he gets all the nutrients he needs. So raw feeding isn’t something that you want to throw your dog into full time before doing your research.

But know this…any switch, even the smallest switch, will help.

My raw feeding mentor Scott Jay Marshall II has recently released a book on the basics of raw feeding. He touches on why it’s important to feed a balanced raw dog food, the benefits of it, how to balance their food and tips on purchasing and prepping food. You can get your copy of his book through Amazon by clicking here.

If you’re at all interested in seeing your dog live a longer and healthier life then…fur the love of dog…buy the book and get started!  Your dog will thank you!
